Publish in a Learning Management System as SCORM 1.2

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a specification to create structured pedagogical objects. The original web content management systems used proprietary formats for the content they distributed. So the exchange of such content was not possible. With SCORM it is possible to create content that can be imported into different learning management systems (such as Moodle), provided that they support the SCORM standard. The main requirements the SCORM model tries to satisfy are:

  • Accessibility: ability to access teaching components from a distant site through web technologies, as well as distribute them to other sites.

  • Adaptability: ability to customize training according to the needs of people and organizations. Durability: ability to resist the evolution of technology without needing a reconfiguration or a rewriting of the code.

  • Interoperability: ability to be used in another location, with another set of tools or on another platform of teaching components developed within a site, with a certain set of tools or on a certain platform. There are numerous levels of interoperability.

  • Reusability: flexibility that allows integrating teaching components within multiple contexts and applications.

The result of export in SCORM 1.2, a compressed package (.zip) is made that can be imported transparently to the user from all LMS platforms (for example Moodle, Sakai, ...) that support this specification.
