Classifying plants

The Kingdom of plants.

As we have seen during the Thinking routine we can find millions of plants around the world, most of them really unknown for us or just because they live in a concrete part of the world very far from us.

The living things are organiced in different groups which are called KINGDOMS. One of these kingdoms is where plants are included: PLANT KINGDOM. The plant kingdom has two important characteristics:

  • They cannot move around.
  • They can prepare their own food.

Plant have three different and important parts: Stem, Roots and leaves.

  • The stem supports the plant.
  • The roots hold the plant in the ground. They also carry water and mineral salts to the plant.
  • The leaves make food.

Depending on how plants are or where they live we can classify them into:

  • Aquatic plants.
  • Land plants.
  • Angiosperm plants.
  • Gimnosperm plants.
  • Flowering plants.
  • Non-flowering plants.
  • Tree.
  • Shrub.
  • Grass.

Let's create a glossary

A glossary is a document which includes the definition of different words related to a concrete topic, in this case we are going to create a glossary about plant. In this document you are going to explain the following concepts:

  • Aquatic plants.
  • Land plants.
  • Angiosperm plants.
  • Gimnosperm plants.
  • Flowering plants.
  • Non-flowering plants.
  • Tree.
  • Shrub.
  • Grass.

Let's create a document with a chart with three columns:

  • Concept.
  • Definition.
  • Picture.

Thinking about my learning.

It is time to reflect about your learning today. Remind that everyday at the end of each lesson you will write on your Learning Diary asking the following questions:

  • Date.
  • What have I done?
  • What problems did I have? How did I solve these problems?
  • What have I learnt?
  • How can I improve my learning for the next lesson?
  • Do I want to learn a bit more about something?

Your teacher will check it and give to you some feedback to help your improvements.
