Reduce: save energy!

Listen carefully to Tim and Jeff. Tim talks about three things he is doing to save energy and help the environment. After listening, do the vocabulary and comprehension quizzes. You can do the activities included in Saving energy.

After having done the listening activities, you have to answer the following questions orally and record your questions and answers in pairs in order to upload the result to your learning diary after having answered them:

  • Do you usually recycle? What do you usually recycle at home?
  • Have you ever visited a recycling plant?
  • Do you think that recycling is necessary nowadays? What about hybrid cars? Do you know anybody who has got one?
  • Do you think that solar energy can be the energy of the future? Why? Why not?

Record your questions and answers in pairs and produce a video clip with your conversation. You can use the web WeVideo to record them. Your teacher can help you in all this process. After having recorded them, you have to project them in the classroom and your classmates have to assess it using the 'Rubric to assess a video assignment in the classroom'.

Your task: Let's continue the research!

Task Step 2: Starting with the research for your campaign.

As the task for this project is to investigate about "recycling”, it will be necessary to start looking for the information that you will include in your file.

Read about how to start recycling at home. Try to find some useful ideas. Then continue searching information.

  • Now, you have to look for some interesting links where you can find information about this topic: reducing, reusing and recycling, institutional campaigns, recycling websites, etc. Your teacher can help you select the most interesting ones.
  • You have to share what you have found with the rest of the class through different means. For example, you can use a Twitter hashtag,( #taskrecycling or #EDIAcork could be some options).
  • You can organize the brainstorm ideas about “reduce, reuse and recycle” and start designing the investigation file about these topics.

You can also take a look at the green tips in order to have more ideas and vocabulary for your investigation file.
