An excursion to Alexandria

You can also explore the historic town just over the Potomac River from Washington, DC. The lively area has plenty of things to do. Visit colonial houses, parks, churches, museums, shops, and restaurants.

There are also a variety of fun sightseeing tours of Alexandria available which include cruises on the Potomac River, horse carriage rides, ghost tours, and historic walking tours. Alexandria is a fun place to visit and you can easily spend the whole day there.

 At the end of the session, you will have:

  • visited Alexandria near Washington DC.
  • known the difference in pronunciation between /ae/ - /Λ/ 
  • drawn the route of different landmarks at the Washington google map.

After that, visit the official site and answer the following questions:

  • How far is it from Washington DC? And from Reagan - Washington National Airport ? (Visit Explore the Region section at the home website) 
  • Which Washington metro lines go there? How far is it from Mount Vernon(Visit Explore the Region section at the home website) 
  • How many neighborhoods are there in Alexandria? Name them. (Visit Explore the Neighborhoods section at the home website) 

Answer these questions in your learning diary. The title of the post has to be: "Alexandria: Minutes from the DC yet a World Away". Can you find more information about Alexandria? Add at least two URLs to your post at your learning diary too.

After the visit, continue with your posts on Twitter (#taskprediction and #EDIAwashington). Do you think that Alexandria is an interesting place to be visited? Would you recommend it to your friends and relatives? Phonetics is really important in English in order to pronounce words correctly. In this project, we are going to take a look at how to pronounce correctly the following phonemes: /ae/ - /Λ/ 

/ae/or /Λ/.

Your Challenge: Washington at the Google Site

Challenge Step 3: Organizing the Washington entry at your Google Site 

At this step, you have to start organizing all the information you have gathered in order to add an entry at the site that we had previously opened.

Each group ( 2 / 3 people) has to organize the information you have searched about Washington at your Google Site. Creativity in the distribution of the contents is very important. 

At this step, you have to include the following information at your Google Sites: the map of the city from Google maps with the route of the ten steps we have in our tour of the city.

It's time to continue with your Learning Diary.
