The school has used SWOT analysis, the SELFIE  tool and departmental improvement reports to identify urgent needs that require priority attention: a student body facing inequalities due to disability, socio-economic background and cultural diversity, teaching staff with insufficient training in inclusion and limited family participation in school life. To address these issues, two European projects will be implemented: a democratic eTwinning project centred on students' concerns and aimed at giving them an active and participatory voice; and an Erasmus+ Key Action 122 (KA122) project on inclusion and diversity, which will provide training for both teachers and students with EU funding. Both initiatives aim to strengthen the school community through international cooperation, equity and shared responsibility among families, teachers and students.

A free digital tool is also available to assess a school’s current level of digital competence in teaching.

GUIDANCE ON THE USE OF DIGITAL TOOLS

IMPORTANT
YYou should always use the tools offered by the educational institution and/or administration to which the teacher who is going to use this resource belongs. However, if certain tools that you wish to use are not provided, you should read and follow the guidance in this document before using any external tool, as well as the recommendations and warnings specific to each of the tools in question.

BEFORE YOU START

To start an eTwinning project effectively, we recommend following these steps:

1. Carry out a series of diagnostic activities to identify students' interests and motivations.

2. Contact international partners to get to know each other, negotiate topics of interest and coordinate planning together, including defining a detailed schedule of activities and distributing collaborative tasks fairly.

Take care of important details: obtaining consent from families or guardians, familiarising yourself with and adhering to the eTwinning Code of Conduct and confirming international working teams that promote interculturality within the project. The official eTwinning SNA platform provides support materials, recommendations and tools in its dedicated section to help you with the first steps with eTwinning. We recommend consulting the following tutorials to help you get started with the pedagogical kit:

  • Code of conduct, student registration and mixed teams of international students:
  • Managing the student and teacher workspace (the TwinSpace):

COMPETENCE SEQUENCING

What makes this teaching kit stand out is its versatility. Its main value is that each teacher can adapt it to their school's specific context and needs, while bearing in mind that it’s based on an online, collaborative methodology.

Online cultural exchange

It promotes collaboration between students from different countries without requiring a linguistic-cultural exchange or in-person mobility.

Introduction to the country of the target language

It serves as a starting point for students to learn about the country whose language and culture they are studying, paving the way for a possible subsequent in-person exchange.

Initiating Erasmus+ projects

It provides an excellent opportunity to start collaborating with international partners and lay the groundwork for future Erasmus+ projects.

Preparing for individual mobility

Helps get learners ready to take part in individual mobilities as part of Erasmus+ school education projects, linked to eTwinning-Erasmus+ activities (the option chosen for this project kit).

The eTwinning methodology aligns with the European Union's (EU) strategic objectives, helping citizens to develop the key competences and skills needed to navigate a global and digital society in constant transformation. This pedagogical kit encourages students to reflect on civic literacy, strengthening their sense of responsibility towards life in society and fostering the development of active, inclusive and participatory citizenship.

The analysis of customs, traditions and civic values is proposed as a cross-cutting theme to support the development of intercultural communicative competence (ICC). This means that students will be able to:

  • Know and appreciate other cultures (e.g., differences in linguistic forms such as “vous/tu,” gastronomy, ceremonies and daily life), thereby developing KNOWLEDGE.
  • Acquire skills and abilities to navigate diverse contexts, applying what they have learned in real situations (e.g., adapting to rules and routines in other countries), that is, KNOW HOW TO DO.
  • Identify and reflect on their own personal strengths and weaknesses (such as shyness or extroversion), fostering KNOW HOW TO ACT.
  • TLearn from their virtual classmates, improving oral and written production, deepening understanding of the topics studied, managing conflict and respecting diverse opinions to reach consensus, which constitutes KNOW HOW TO LEARN.

The teaching kit emphasises the development of ICC and critical thinking, essential skills for thriving in a globalised and diverse environment, where respect for plurality and social participation are fundamental. Students are also encouraged to develop intercultural awareness by comparing differences and similarities in ways of being, responses to various situations and shared understanding of the cultures involved.

To ensure a high-quality project, it’s essential that all partners agree on a calendar of activities. You can find an example calendar at the following link. Regular coordination between teachers is equally important for designing, planning and implementing the project collaboratively, effectively monitoring the achievement of objectives and fostering a cooperative working environment in which all members participate equally and have a rewarding experience.

IMPORTANT: This kit was developed in a classroom setting, and all sessions are linked to the actual eTwinning project that was carried out. You can visit it to view the TwinSpace. We hope you find this resource useful.
