This project kit will be linked to individual mobility, helping students get ready to take part in individual mobilities as part of the Erasmus+ school education programme. In this case, the partner is in France, but it could be carried out with any other partner country/countries.

In the initial stage, the school used a SWOT analysis, the SELFIE tool and departmental improvement reports to identify a number of urgent needs that require priority attention to ensure the well-being of the school. The findings highlight the following issues in the school community: students have fewer opportunities due to barriers such as disability, socioeconomic challenges and cultural differences; teachers have limited training in the school’s real context, particularly in inclusive practices; and families have low levels of participation in the school community. A decision was thus made to get students democratically involved in an eTwinning project based on their shared concerns and objectives, while teachers participate in developing an Erasmus+ inclusion project to apply for funding under Key Action 122 (KA122).

A series of activity sessions were organised to determine whether the students (from Spain and France, along with those taking part in the mobility programme) would be interested in doing an eTwinning project on a topic that interests them, and to allow them to select it democratically.

Activity 1: Observing, reflecting

As an engagement activity, we start by reflecting on respect for cultural diversity and show the following video in class or virtually.

TED. Poetry, music and identity (with English subtitles) | Jorge Drexler | TED (YouTube standard licence)

After watching the video, students gather in a learning circle to reflect on the following questions:

  1.  Quel est le rapport entre la poésie et la musique?
  2. In the analysis of the poem Heureux qui comme Ulysse by Joachim du Bellay, we have studied the musical reinterpretation by Ridan Ulysse, illustrating the perenniality of the work. Can you tell me from which century are this writer and this singer?
  3. What is the thematics of this video?
  4.  According to you, does the music favour the critical spirit?
  5.  Which song has marked you by its message about diversity, appearances and clichés?
