Session 5

Which specific topics and sub-topics would you like to base your project on?

SESSION 5

We choose the topic we want to explore. Students democratically decide what they want to learn, encouraging participation and civic responsibility through a structured process of proposals, group discussion, and a final vote. Group decisions have an impact on the final outcomes. We aim to simulate how voting influences society. In Session 2, students should start reflecting on which topic they want to work on and reach an agreement with their team. To work through the different steps online, the four activities are organised into a learning pathway. Now it’s time to flesh out the sub-topics.

ACTIVITY 1: REFLECT

The following heading is suggested for this activity.

Project topic: For now, present the ideas you have proposed to work on. Comment on the proposed topics in the forum or via videoconference. Which one do you find most interesting? You must state two positive points (pros) and two negative points (cons).

Note: This activity can be done via videoconference using the tool provided by the school or your autonomous community/city. This way, students can be divided into rooms under the supervision of a teacher. If these tools are unavailable, students can start a discussion in a dedicated forum thread.

What topic did we choose for our eTwinning project? Quelle thématique pour notre projet eTwinning?

·       Here are the ideas you proposed. / Voici les idées que vous avez proposées.

·       Write two comments in favour and two against. Support your ideas with critical reasoning. / Ecris deux commentaires en faveur et deux contre. Argumente critiquement tes idées.

·        Then vote for two ideas by clicking "vote" / Ensuite tu dois voter pour deux idées en cliquant sur "vote".

ACTIVITY 2: NEGOTIATE AND VOTE

The following heading is suggested for this activity.

Negotiate and vote on the topic:  We will now vote on the sub-topics that most interest us from the main topic agreed upon in Session 2.

Focus groups: Check which group you are in for the next activity. Join your group's discussion room or contribute to the corresponding forum thread. Work in groups of four to come up with possible sub-topics for this year's chosen topic.

ACTIVITY 3: MAKING DECISIONS

The following heading is suggested for this activity.

Selection of sub-topics and activities. After 15 minutes, complete the working documents.

*Note: You can find an example of a working document in the resources section of this session.

You have 15 minutes to decide which aspects of the chosen topic to focus on and which types of final products interest you most: Write your conclusions on the virtual wall (see the example in the resources section) for Activity 4.
