Title: Dancing with paper.

Stage od education: ECEC.

Grade: 5 years old.

Subject Area: Discovery and Exploration of the Environment.

Description of the activity

Throughout this collaborative activity, students in Early Childhood Education embark on a journey of exploration, creativity and recycling, as they learning about the importance of reusing to protect our environment and reflect on actions that affect our ecosystem. Emphasis is placed on the fact that it is in our hands to prevent pollution. Additionally, recycling paper permits us to work on different subjects, including arts.

Initially, students are placed in small groups of 4-5 as they discover and learn about paper, an apparently simple and everyday material, but full of surprises. Through a multisensory approach, the aim is to discover paper’s different qualities and types as they experiment and turn paper into the main focus of the outputs that will be created. At the same time, paper will be examined using the senses of sight, hearing and touch, separating it a bit from its habitual use to reflect on its possible new uses. This exploration allows different expressive languages to be interconnected, stimulating creativity and seeing paper as a wonderful and marvelous element. Finally, through movement, a ‘paper dance’ is carried out using this material, along with other psychomotor exercises.
